Title: King and Queen of Charleston
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 11 x 16
This was a piece that I was extremely excited to start. On our way down to FL Joan and I stopped in Charleston for a couple of days. While there we both took photos. at the intersection of King and Queen Streets in all directions. Using multiple photos created a sketch that took 2 days to complete to create my composition. It then took another couple of days to complete the painting. Am pleased with the outcome.
Title: Caspersen Beach
Medium: Watercolor on Yupo
Size: 11 x 14
This was our 1st beach day, Joan accompanied me on this Plein Air trip to Venice. We were just down the road from Sharky's on the Pier Restaurant. Told her we could have lunch after the painting was done. Had a great lunch and then it poured. Luckily wasn't still painting, anyone who knows about Yupo the canvas would have been blank if the rain started earlier and ground under the painting would have been an abstract blob.
Title: Kittery Marshland
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 6 x 12
This piece was created from a photo, that I had taken years ago in Kittery, ME. I had saved the photo and knew that I would create a piece from it some day. That day came while I was going through the photos I had taken to FL in the event I needed something to paint.
Title: Sunset Celebration
Medium: Watercolor on Yupo
Size: 11 x 14
This was another creation from a photo taken years ago when my wife and I were accompanied to a Drum Circle in Sarasota by my son, his wife and our grandchildren. I had always liked the photo for its energy, think I caught the feeling. I entered it into the Primavera Art Show, a juried show at the Visual Art Center in Punta Gorda, FL. Was pleasantly surprised when it was accepted. As this was only my 4th time doing watercolor on Yupo, which is an experience.
Title: Path to Visiual Adventure
Medium: Watercolor on Yupo
Size: 11 x 14
This was a Plein Air piece the as created at History Park in Punta Gorda, with the Peace River Plein Ari Painters. I flooded the sky with color and then followed that up with more color to capture the day. This piece was also accepted into the Primavera Art Show and was only my 3rd time playing with the Yupo. Believe that a created an adventure with color
Title: Grounded
Medium: Watercolor on Yupo
Size: 11 x 14
This is actually my 1st attempt with painting on Yupo. Let the paint drip along the surface to created the reflections in the water. It was from a photo taken in Charleston on the trip down.
Title: Phillippi Estate Park
Medium: Watercolor on Yupo
Size: 11 x 14
This was a quick paint event. If I had arrived on time I would have had 2 hrs to complete the painting. Since I was a little late, I had a 1 1/2 hrs to complete the piece. This was my 1st time working on Yupo. Was more than a little surprised I was able to finish the piece in the amount of time I had. It is representative of the subject. It probably helped that I had preciously done the painting in oils. You can see the oil painting on my Oil page.
Title: Orange House
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 11 x 14
Joan and I were at a Happy Hour at the White Elephant Grill and Pub at Englewood Beach and speaking to several people and my wife mentioned that I was an artist. They asked to see my work and I showed them some photo's on my I-phone. One of the ladies asked if I could paint a house located in Punta Gorda called the Orange House. I said I would take a look at it. She said she had been trying to get a painting done but the artist wasn't getting back to her. I took a look and did a Plein Air piece and took several photos. I created this piece from the Plein Air piece and the photos. I had given the 2 ladies my business card with this site, so posted this photo of the Orange House painting. I was pleased with the piece. Maybe I'll get a call on it.
Title: Underwater
Medium: Loose Acrylics
Size:
I had done an oil painting of this boat when it was still afloat several years ago. I heard it had sunk and made a trip to the Fishery in FL. Took several photos and using Loose Acrylics created a painting that closely resembles a watercolor.
Title: Fountain at History Park
Medium: Loose Acrylics
Size:
This is a Plein Air Piece done at the History Park in Punta Gorda, FL. The Plein Air Group, Piece River Painters, met at that site in March and each picked their own subject. There were several old houses to pick from but I liked the fountain and the surrounding plant life. This piece was recognized with a 2nd place ribbon TVAA.

Title: Maria's Farm Stand
Size:
This was from a couple of photo's that I had taken of this Farm Stand down the street from where we rent in Lake Suzy. I had taken the photo's 2 years ago. A friend of my wife's asked her if I done the painting of the stand and my wife didn't know but said yes. So, being on the spot I did the painting this year. I showed it to Maria and she gave me a hug. I guess she liked the effort.

Title: Study
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 6 x 8
While I was waiting for a watercolor class to start at the Port Charlotte Senior Center I was studying from a book by Zoltan Szabo. This was a study from this book, the goal was to create and interesting sky. The mountains and the foreground were incidental to me.
Title: Beach Umbrellas
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 8 x 11
We, my wife and I, went to lunch at a place called Sharky's in Venice FL. It was a windy day and people were hiding behind their umbrellas, I thought it would make for a light hearted little painting. I also did a postcard but that was given with gift for a birthday.

Title: Study
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 8 x 11
This was a study from the same Zoltan Szabo book, so it is not an original composition, I enjoyed the process.

I took a watercolor class at the Port Charlotte Senior Center, the instructor was Skip Mattie. This piece was started and finished at home based upon my recollection of a class project below. We weren't allowed to take the photo we were working from home. This was my version of the project.
Title: Shining Sea
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 11 x 17
This piece is an original composition This was from a photo that I had taken in Rockport, MA. The Sky was done in a way to create interest. The water used a variety of techniques some picked from the class I was taken, others from Mr. Szabo's book and other from my experience in other mediums. This is one I think will be entered in a show.
Title: Alaska Mist
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 9 x 14
This was based on a photo taken while my wife and I were on our trip to Alaska in 2009. It was a hazy morning and this little sailboat was anchored in the vicinity of one of glaciers. The haze in the painting was created from another technique from Mr. Szabo.
Title: Surrounded by Color

Another photo from our Alaska trip, the sky was a primary part of the composition along with the rocks on the island. It was an interesting composition and the colors go throughout the painting.
Title: Farmer's Market Gig
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 22 x 28
While at a Farmer's Market in Coventry I found this band, Poor Old Shine, that was performing. I thought that they would make an interesting piece with the fall foliage and band vehicle, so snapped off a couple of photo's.
While I was in Fl. I put this watercolor together and put in the TVAA show when I returned home. It took a 3rd place in the watercolor category. Since I don't consider myself a watercolorist, I thought that was pretty good.
Title: A Happy Moment
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 12 x 16
I have had a photo of my Daughter in Law and grandson for a long time. I've always loved the photo and decided to put something together. Pretty happy with the results. I had to do it 5 times before I was happy with it though. This was the first time that both subjects looked like the person.
Title: Surfing In New England
Medium: Watercolor
Size: 12 x 18
This was an assignment for the same Impressionist Class as above. We were to do a painting of surf. There wasn't any surf in FL, so went on line and found a surfing photo. I liked the mist above the wave and this was the result.
