Title: An Arrangement

This was created from a photo taken of a flower arrangement at our villa in Italy. I was tired of working in oils and took a break and played with pastels for a couple of pieces. This was a piece that I was happy with. Will submit to shows when right venue is available.

This was another piece that I did for the class. I again was working on reflections. I created my own still life. My original title was ostracized but my wife suggested the final title. I did another version of this still life with a standard size and submitted it to the student show. It took first place in the pastel category. This one was better.

I joined a Plein Aire group and this was the second version of this boat at the Navigator Restaurant in Lake Suzy. The first version was traded with a fellow painter. He asked if it was finished and a told him I had a little bit to do to finish. He responded it was done enough and asked if I would trade it for his watercolor. We agreed and I duplicated the boat with this piece.

Joan and I were visiting friends in Niantic. We went for a walk in the neighborhood and came across this scene across a pond. Photo'd and did this in my studio. Was taking a break for oils and was playing with pastels for a short time.

This was the first project for a pastel class that I took at the Cultural Center in Port Charlotte. The goal was to create a bead of water on the pear.

I was looking to do a fall theme piece and have a watering can in our garden. I picked up some pumpkins and apples. cut some fronds from grasses growing in the garden and put together a still life in my studio. My wife cut some late blooming rose blossoms and added them to the watering can. This was the resulting piece

Was on a recent trip to Utah, and went to the Navajo Reservation Visiting Center. I gentleman named Wally gave a presentation on the beliefs of the Navajo people and was emphasizing the importance of the number 4 in their culture. I took several photo's of him during his presentation but the one that I decided to create of portrait from was when he was speaking of the number 4.
This visit was on the 4th of July and from his headband you can see that in addition to the Navajo beliefs, he also has strong feelings for the country as a whole. When this piece is framed its total size will be 32 by 26. This was accepting into the Piedmont juried show and won Peoples Choice in TVAA members show, 2013

This peacock was strutting on the wall along a path at one of the castles we had the opportunity to visit in 2012 while in Autstria. I took a photo and this past week created this piece. I think a captured his pride. The background was a bear to compose. This piece was entered and accepted in a National Show, Academic Artists Juried Show in Vernon, CT and the Agawam Friends of Library Juried Show.

This is a weed in Alaska, it functions as a kind of groundhog. When it finishes blossoming, it finishes blossoming, it is six weeks till first snow fall.

I went to a demo in a local gallery, liked the technique and colors. Thought I'd try one of my own. This was from a photo taken in the Jacksonville area along I-95 by my wife, Joan on our way home from FL. I liked the use of colors, primarily purple and oranges to create my Highway Interchanges.

I went to Gilcrest Park in Punta Gorda to do a Plein Aire Pastel. I saw this group of painters at the park and picked out this one that was in a nice setting and did a very light sketch. Started to lay my colors in, so was committed. As soon as I layed in the first colors, my subject packed up her stuff and left. Lucky I did my light sketch.

In 2009 my wife and I took a trip to Alaska with another couple. It was a great trip with lots of vast scenery. This was on scenic stream with the mountain in the background.

Since I did a portrait of one of the grandchildren, thought I should cover the other two. I just didn't know how difficult it was to capture two within the same painting. I did it twice, the first wasn't what I thought it should have been, so did it a second time. This is the second one.

I was with my Brother in Law and a trip to Battleship Cove. I saw these stacks and when we were returning home on I-95 coming into Providence, R.I. I snapped a couple of photo's. at about 70 mph. I wanted to use non life like colors to create the piece, so started with a green sky and everything developed from the sky. I think it works.

While at an art show in Venice Florida, I noted this line of trees on the western part of Main St. I decided to do this for an assignment where realistic colors were not to be used. I started off with the orange sky and then used Complimentary colors for the trees. The remaining colors were then generated.
